El Xelajú guatemalteco aprovechó su condición de local y evidenció el juego irregular del conjunto mexicano de Chivas para derrotarlo por la mínima diferencia en la Concachampions y, de esta manera, conseguir su primer triunfo en la competencia.
A pesar de que la escuadra de Chivas salió con sus mejores hombres, no tuvo la capacidad ni el futbol para inquietar a un guerrero cuadro centroamericano, que en términos generales fue mejor durante todo el encuentro, que incluso tuvo el chance de que el marcador fuera más amplio.
El equipo comandado por el timonel costarricense Hernán Medford desde los primeros minutos salió en busca de los tres puntos, pues logró generar peligro y no dejó hacer nada al rival; sin embargo, el equipo de los Chivos, como también se le conoce, no pudo reflejar en la primera parte su dominio en la pizarra.
"No menospreciamos al rival": Van't SchipNotimex: El director técnico del Guadalajara, el holandés John Van't Schip, reconoció el inesperado revés (1-0) ante el guatemalteco Xelajú, en partido jugado hoy de la Copa de Campeones de la Confederación Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe de Futbol (Concacaf).
El estratega de las Chivas Rayadas dijo en rueda de prensa tras concluir el partido que el cuadro local "fue superior", logró un mejor desempeño en la cancha y por eso "mereció el triunfo".
Dijo que los mexicanos tuvieron una mala noche y dejaron ir el resultado ante un "buen equipo" guatemalteco. "Hoy creo que ninguno de nosotros ha jugado un buen partido", opinó.
Aseguró que el club mexicano, de mayor trayectoria y que lucía como favorito en el choque ante el campeón guatemalteco Xelajú, no menospreció a su rival de esta noche y que por el contrario lo estudió mucho en video.
Para la parte complementaria, el cuadro azteca trató de hacerse del balón, pero siguió equivocando muchos pases, por lo que la escuadra guatemalteca poco a poco empezó a tener más presencia en el área enemiga, incluso el silbante les anuló un gol en un claro fuera de lugar.
Sin embargo, el Xelajú tuvo su recompensa al minuto 67 con el gol del recién ingresado Édgar Chinchilla, quien en un tiro de esquina se anticipó a su marcador Héctor Reynoso para mandar el balón al fondo de las redes, sin que el portero Luis Ernesto Michel pudiera salvar su meta.
Con el gol en contra, Chivas quiso reaccionar, pero el tiempo empezó a desesperar a sus jugadores, quienes empezaron a mandar centros al área sin peligro alguno y a disparar de larga distancia sin mucho tino, siendo lo mejor un tiro de Marco Fabián que apenas se fue por encima, por lo que el juego quedó sentenciado a favor del cuadro guatemalteco.
