MASON, Ohio, EE.UU. .- No hubo medalla de por medio. Novak Djokovic, sin sobresaltos, se clasificó a otra final.

Djokovic ajustó cuentas con Juan Martín del Potro al despachar el sábado al argentino en dos sets para avanzar a la final del Masters de Cincinnati por segundo año sucesivo.

En la revancha del duelo por la medalla de bronce de los Juegos Olímpicos, el serbio Djokovic se impuso el sábado 6-3, 6-2. Del Potro. Hace dos semanas, en el césped de Wimbledon, Del Potro cantó victoria para colgarse un bronce.

¿La segunda parte en la superficie azul y dura de Cincinnati? Demasiado dispareja.

Djokovic se medirá en la final con Roger Federer. El número uno mundial supo lidiar con un irregular saque y venció 7-6 (4), 6-3 a su compatriota suizo Stanislas Wawrinka.

Será la séptima vez que Federer y Djokovic se enfrentarán en una final y la primera desde el torneo de Dubai en 2011. Federer aventaja 15-12 en el historia entre ambos.

El año pasado, Djokovic alcanzó la final pero no la pudo disputar por una dolencia en el hombro y el título quedó en manos de Andy Murray.

Ha sido una buena semana para Djokovic, quien el domingo se coronó en el Masters de Toronto y solventó sus partidos con facilidad. Apenas estuvo media hora en cancha el jueves debido a que su rival

Nikolay Davydenko se retiró por una dolencia en el hombro.

El serbio apenas disputó tres sets en los últimos dos días, así que dispuso de bastante energía para su segunda semifinal en ocho días. Y la usó en los largos peloteos.

Djokovic y Del Potro intercambiaron muchos tiros desde la línea de fondo durante el primer set, con ambos jugadores desaprovechando oportunidades de tomar el control temprano en el partido. El serbio llegó a la semifinal manteniendo su servicio en 22 games en el torneo, y apenas enfrentó cuatro puntos de rompimiento. Sólo en el tercer game de la semifinal tuvo que enfrentar la misma cantidad.

Djokovic salvó uno de esos puntos de quiebre con una remontada que terminó cuando Del Potro dejó un revés en el cintillo de la red, y luego agachó la cabeza.

"Jugamos puntos largos", dijo Djokovic. "Fácilmente se hubiera podido definir para cualquiera. Me las arreglé para aguantar y jugar mejor cuando lo necesité".

Una de las mayores preocupaciones del Del Potro es su muñeca izquierda, que le molesta desde hace tiempo. El argentino será revisado antes del Abierto de Estados Unidos por el mismo médico que le operó la muñeca derecha en 2010, cuando se perdió la mayor parte de la temporada.

Durante el primer set, Del Potro se vio la muñeca izquierda y la sacudió luego de un revés complicado, un indicio de que esos puntos largos le estuvieron molestando.

"Sí, me está molestando todo el tiempo y no quiero arriesgar demasiado", dijo Del Potro. "Tengo experiencia en problemas de muñeca y quisiera tomarme el tiempo para arreglar este pequeño problema".

Djokovic le rompió el servicio para colocarse 4-2 con el saque. Le volvió a romper el servicio para una ventaja de 2-1 en el segundo set, cuando Del Potro al parecer perdió la concentración. El argentino finalizó con 27 errores no forzados en dos sets.

Hubo un momento en que pensó en abandonar por el dolor de muñeca.

"Estoy jugando bien, incluso en este partido", dijo. "Y los aficionados aquí son muy amables. (La cancha central) estuvo llena el día de hoy, y no me retiré porque Djokovic es mi amigo y le tengo mucho respeto y quería terminar el encuentro".
