Londres — Manu Ginóbili tuvo un triste adiós de los Juegos Olímpicos. La derrota de Argentina ante Rusia en el duelo por el bronce dejó amargura por no poder subir por tercera vez a un podio y también dolió por los golpes físicos.

Agobiado por lo mucho que le cuesta alejarse de su familiares para las concentraciones y con 35 años, el astro argentino no piensa estar en la siguiente cita olímpico, la de Río 2016, aunque eso no signifique que no piensa vestir más la albiceleste.

"Es muy difícil de aislarlo ahora, logramos un montón de cosas juntos", dijo Ginóbili, poniendo el espejo retrovisor a su trayectoria con el seleccionado. "Fueron 10 años o más muy importantes".

Fue una brillante carrera cuyo momento cumbre fue la medalla de oro en Atenas 2004, además del bronce en Beijing 2008 y el subcampeonato mundial en 2002.

"Un partido ganado más ó menos no va a cambiar nada, pero teníamos una ilusión enorme por ganar una medalla. Desde el primer día dijimos que queríamos llegar a este partido y estuvimos a un minuto de ganarlo y no se da. Pero lo que se logro con este equipo es muy grande y va a exceder el hecho que ganaramos la medalla o no", señaló.

Fue justamente en el Mundial de Indianápolis 2002 en el Ginóbili, Andrés Nocioni y Luis Scola comenzaron su épica historia juntos venciendo a Estados Unidos en las semifinales.

"Me cuesta pensar en el legado y no sentir el dolor de saber que esta era quizá la última oportunidad de ganar una medalla y se perdió, son momentos irreversibles", agregó Ginóbili, quien durante el torneo habló varias veces sobre lo mucho que le costaba el estar lejos de casa y familia.

Aunque al final del partido ante los rusos, el entrenador Julio Lamas dejó abierta la puerta a la posibilidad de alargar la permanencia de varios miembros de la Generación Dorada, uno de ellos no será Ginóbili.

"El estar entre los cuatro más grandes del mundo es un logro, las emociones que tengo ahora tienen que ver más con el partido perdido y yo también quiero saber lo mismo que ustedes, saber si hay jugadores que jugaron el último día", dijo Lamas.

"Lo del recambio, para que diga algo con fundamentos, hay que estudiarlo. Pero si el equipo para el próximo año puede contar con Nocioni, Delfino, (Pablo) Prigioni y Scola como líderes, eso aumentará las posibilidades de buenos resultados", concluyó Lamas.
