WEMBLEY, Inglaterra — A seguir esperando, Brasil. Es el turno de México de festejar su primer oro en el fútbol olímpico.

México se quedó el sábado con la medalla de oro que tanto ansiaba Brasil al ganarle 2-1 con dos goles de Oribe Peralta, el primero de ellos a los 28 segundos del partido, producto de una falla defensiva brasileña.

Es la primera presea dorada de México en fútbol, una que se suponía estaba reservada para los brasileños, que llegaron como favoritos para llevarse el único título grande que todavía no han ganado.

El público todavía estaba sentándose en el estadio de Wembley cuando México abrió el marcador tras un error de Rafael, defensor del Manchester United. El lateral se entretuvo con el balón y fue encerrado por los mexicanos contra la banda derecha. Cuando finalmente intentó pasarlo, Marco Fabián lo pellizcó. La pelota le quedó a Peralta, que avanzó unos metros, midió el disparo y fusiló a Gabriel con un remate rasante desde el borde del área que entró pegado a un poste.

A Brasil le costó reponerse del golpe. Los mexicanos se plantaron bien en el terreno y no regalaron nada. Sus volantes, sobre todo Héctor Herrera y Jorge Henríquez, impidieron que su rival se armase y Brasil no consiguió hilvanar jugadas. Oscar estuvo muy aislado y Neymar trató de ponerse el equipo al hombro, pero sin éxito. Jugó lejos del arco rival y no incidió.

La primera llegada de Brasil se produjo recién a los 20 minutos, en que Oscar recibió un balón dentro del área y sacó un remate de media vuelta débil y al medio, que Jesús Corona atajó sin dificultad.

El técnico Mano Menezes movió tempranamente la estantería y poco después de la media hora hizo entrar a Hulk en lugar de Alex Sandro para reforzar el ataque. Hulk no tardó en hacerse notar, con un remate desde 20 metros que motivó una buena atajada de Corona.

El delantero del Porto fue el autor del gol brasileño en el primer minuto de los descuentos, y poco después, Oscar tuvo el tanto del empate en su cabeza, pero su remate a pasos del arco salió por encima del travesaño.

Neymar se mostró más en el complemento, aunque sin poder marcar la diferencia. Tuvo el gol en sus pies a los 58 y tiró alto desde 15 metros.

Con Brasil jugado al ataque, el partido ganó emoción y fue México el que estuvo más cerca de anotar. Marco Fabián estrelló un tiro de espaldas al arco en el travesaño y poco después cabeceó alto desde muy cerca.

Peralta finalmente marcó el segundo de cabeza luego de un tiro libre de Fabián.

La derrota brasileña prolonga una sequía que está comenzando a ser un trauma. Pentacampeón mundial, Brasil es la única potencia del fútbol que nunca ha ganado el oro olímpico.
