LONDRES .- Medallistas de plata como dúo, los clavadistas mexicanos Germán Sánchez e Iván García presentaron el viernes sus credenciales a la pelea por otro metal en Londres, esta vez en forma individual.

Sánchez y García avanzaron a las semifinales de clavados desde la plataforma de 10 metros tras completar un concurso muy consistente.

Tras seis saltos, Sánchez sumó 495.85 puntos y se clasificó quinto de entre los 32 participantes de la primera ronda, ampliamente dominada por los favoritos chinos Qiu Bo y Lin Yue. Su compatriota García concluyó sexto con 491.70 puntos.

El colombiano Víctor Ortega, así como los cubanos José Antonio Guerra y Jeinkler Aguirre también se colaron entre los 18 semifinalistas que volverán a la plataforma el sábado, entre los que también se encuentra el joven ídolo británico Thomas Daley.

Sánchez, que estuvo casi siempre entre los tres primeros, realizó un cuarto salto muy destacado, cuatro mortales y medio hacia dentro que le valieron una puntuación de 98.40.

"Lo importante en esta ronda es pasar. Me sentí bien y tuve una excelente competencia", dijo Sánchez. "Está la oportunidad de otra medalla, pero hay que demostrarlo, no me gusta hablar, sino demostrarlo".

Además de la presea de Sánchez y García en los sincronizados de 10 metros, México ha cosechado dos preseas en los clavados. Paola Espinosa y Alejandra Orozco se quedaron con la plata en sincronizados de 10 metros y Laura Sánchez consiguió el bronce en individuales desde el trampolín de tres metros.

García admitió que la plata que ambos consiguieron hace unos días les está dando mucha tranquilidad.

"La medalla nos deja tranquilidad y simplemente estamos disfrutando la competencia", señaló. "Los seis clavados siento que fueron buenos para el objetivo, que era estar entre los 18 primeros".

"Estoy orgulloso de estar compitiendo otra vez en esta alberca, tendré que dar lo mejor de mí para mejorar mañana (sábado)", añadió.

En la primera ronda también participaron dos colombianos. Sebastián Villar quedó eliminado, pero Ortega consiguió la 13ra. plaza con 450.60.

"Clasificar a semifinales me pone muy contento", explicó Ortega. "No pienso en la final, sólo quiero competir conmigo mismo, superar el puntaje que tuve en la preliminar. Estar tranquilo y sereno".

En el primer lugar se clasificó el chino Qui Bo, seguido por su compatriota Lin Yue. De ganar esta prueba, China arrasaría con el oro en los clavados de Londres 2012.
