WEMBLEY, Inglaterra (AP) — Para Brasil sería una catástrofe sin remedio si no gana su ansiado oro olímpico. México, en cambio, no tiene nada que perder.

Brasil y México chocarán el sábado en Wembley y el ganador emergerá como un campeón inédito en el fútbol de los Juegos Olímpicos, ya que ninguno de los dos jamás ganó la medalla de oro.

Será la sexta final en diversos campeonatos a nivel de selecciones y Brasil jamás le pudo ganar a México.

Ahora, con un equipo plagado de estrellas donde sobresalen Neymar, Oscar, Leandro Damiao y compañía, Brasil tratará de ponerle punto final a la histórica frustración de no haber ganado el título olímpico, el único de fuste que le falta a sus lujosas vitrinas donde relucen, entre otras, cinco Copas del Mundo y ocho de América.

Una medalla de plata sería considerada un fracaso para Brasil, que con un triunfo 3-0 sobre Corea del Sur avanzó a su primera final olímpica en 24 años (Seúl 1988), además de haber estado en la de Los Angeles 1984.

México, en cambio, luciría la plateada con orgullo, ya que es la primera vez que disputa una final, a la que arribó tras eliminar 3-1 a Japón.

Brasil carga sobre sus espaldas con la mochila de candidato y con la presión de acabar con una sequía histórica sin el oro.

El técnico de Brasil, Mano Menezes, aseguró que sus jugadores no están contaminados por esos factores.

"No creo que los jugadores sientan un peso encima porque no hemos ganado esta medalla", dijo Menezes. "Y eso es fabuloso porque sería un obstáculo innecesario para el equipo, además del que ya tenemos en la cancha".

Neymar, talentoso atacante del Santos y emblema de la selección, también considera al igual que Menezes que para Brasil será un partido más.

¿Una forma de quitarse presión?.

"Es una final como cualquier otra", dijo Neymar, campeón del Sudamericano Sub20 el año pasado e integrante del verdeamarela que fue eliminada en cuartos de final en la última Copa América en Argentina. "Hay un título en juego y hay que encararla bien concentrado desde el comienzo para salir victorioso".

"No hay misterio. Tenemos que seguir con el juego que nos ha permitido estar en la final", dijo Neymar, quien marcó tres de los 15 goles que tiene el equipo. Leandro Damiao, del Internacional de Porto Alegre, es el máximo artillero del torneo con seis dianas.

Mientras la base del equipo de Brasil es relativamente nueva, México cuenta con la ventaja de que buena parte de sus jugadores se conocen de la Copa América y de los Juegos Panamericanos de Guadalajara.

Además, México se ha convertido en ingrato recuerdo para Brasil, ya que no perdió en ninguno de los cinco choques decisivos en que se han encontrado, entre ellos cuando le ganó 4-3 en la en la final de la Copa Confederaciones de 1999, jugada en el estadio Azteca, y cuando lo goleó 3-0 en la final del mundial sub17 del 2005, que le dio a México su primer título mundial en cualquier categoría.

México además venció a Brasil 2-0 en 1996 en Los Angeles y 1-0 en 2003 en el estadio Azteca, en ambos casos en finales por la Copa de Oro a los que los sudamericanos acudieron como invitados.

En los Juegos Panamericanos 1975, en México, ambos seleccionados estaban 1-1 y una invasión de cancha por parte de aficionados, combinado con un apagón, obligaron a la suspensión del partido. Después se resolvió otorgar el oro a los dos equipos.

¿La sexta final será la vencida para Brasil?

Si eso ocurre, es porque le habrá encontrado la vuelta a un México que dio sobradas muestras de ser un equipo aguerrido, al que ningún rival se lo llevó por delante.

México, cuyo objetivo es garantizar la posesión de la pelota sin correr riesgos, mantuvo la sangre fría en este torneo, como ocurrió en cuartos de final cuando Senegal lo puso contra las cuerdas. Pero el Tri superó ese momento de flaqueza y terminó ganando 4-2 en el alargue.

En semifinales, México volvió a convertir la impotencia en motivación: Japón le metió un gol de entrada, el Tri conservó la calma y acudió al auxilio colectivo para dar vuelta el resultado y avanzar con un 3-1. Hasta entonces, los japoneses mantenían el arco invicto.

Mientras Brasil depende mucho de la inspiración individual —con toques, desbordes y gambetas_, México marca en bloque y sus jugadores no dan por perdida una sola pelota, como ocurrió ante Japón cuando un defensor la tenía, Oribe Peralta se la robó y convirtió el segundo para su equipo.

"A diferencia de Brasil, manejamos el juego de conjunto, debemos estar bien acoplados, no dejar espacios", dijo Carlos Salcido, de 32 años, convocado por el técnico Luis Fernando Tena como uno de los tres refuerzos mayores de 23 años. "Brasil individualmente te puede cambiar un partido. México no tiene ese tipo de jugadores y por eso tenemos que jugar en bloque".

México sufrirá la baja de su figura Giovani Dos Santos por una rotura fibrilar en la corva derecha sufrida ante Japón.

El reemplazante del delantero sería Marco Fabián, quien subiría unos metros para acompañar a Peralta. Y el hueco que dejaría Fabián sería ocupado por Miguel Ponce, quien entraría como titular para ser el volante de creación en lugar de Fabián.
