La clavadista mexicana Paola Espinosa se quedó sin oportunidad de medalla en la final de plataforma femenil individual 10 metros, luego de quedar en sexto sitio y donde la china Chen Roulin se convirtió en monarca ante la sorpresa de la malaya Pandelela Pamg.

De las 12 competidoras que clasificaron solo tres de ellas estaban con aspiraciones de ascender el podio y una de ellas era Paola, quien buscaba sumar su segunda medalla olímpica en esta justa, pero ahora en la prueba “reina” de los saltos ornamentales.

Por lo que tanto ella como la china Hu Yadan, las australianas Melissa Wu y Brittany Broben, la canadiense Rosaline Filion y desde luego la otra china Chen Roulin, quien es la campeona defensora de la prueba, salieron en busca de estar en el medallero.

La aduana simplemente complicada, ya que en las rondas preliminares la mexicana estuvo cerca de no acceder a la final, pero su coraje y temple en sus ejecuciones hicieron que estuviera en la pelea, ahora solo era cuestión de hacer los saltos de mejor manera.

Luego de la segunda ronda, Paola Espinosa se mantenía en la tercera posición, arriba la china Roulin y en segundo la australiana Brittany. El salto atrás con tres vueltas y media (3.3) marcó la diferencia para bajar su rango, ya que se pasó un poco y recibió calificaciones de 6.5 para total de 61.05 y un acumulado de 205.80.

Quizás la mexicana dudó un poco ante la presión de obtener otra medalla, pero luego vino la china Hu Yadan, quien con ochos salió avante en la tercera parada. Hasta las primeras siete aspirantes, Paola Espinosa se ubicó en el cuarto sitio.

Salió la australiana Melissa Wu, quien ha aprendido algunos de los secretos del mexicano Salvador Sobrino y falló, pero no así su compatriota Brittany Broben, quien arrancó ochos de los jueces y se colocó de manera momentánea en el puesto uno.

La canadiense Meaghan Banfeito al quite y salió bien librada con 72 unidades y cerró la tanda la monarca olímpica Chen Roulin y con el parado de manos entró como aguja ante la algarabía de la gente para sumar 86.90 y total de 256.70. Paola culminó en el octavo puesto y la asiática en el liderato.

La situación se complicó para la mexicana y con el salto adentro con tres vueltas y media (3.2) apenas sacó 80.00 para acumular 285.80. Debía cerrar bien si quería colarse entre las medallistas. Tocó el turno de Broben y se pasó para recibir 57.75 tras 5.8 y 6 de calificación.

Las aspiraciones de Paola estaban latentes y solo era cuestión de esperar y ejecutar casi magistral el salto atrás con dos vueltas y media y un giro y medio (3.2) para acceder. La canadiense Banfeito también falló, pero no la asiática Roulin.

Paola Espinosa terminó la cuarta ronda en tercera posición, la china de líder y la ucraniana Iluila Prokopchuk en segundo.

La mexicana no debía fallar. Se plantó en la plataforma y rozó de forma ligera la cama de agua. Sumó 70.40 para 356.30 con calificaciones de 7.5 y 7.0. El trabajo estaba hecho y era momento de esperar. La china Hu Yadan salió con dos nueves y sumó 86.40 para total de 349.50.

Al llegar el cierre de la contienda la australiana Broben, la canadiense Benfeito y la china Roulin hicieron el mismo salto que Paola pero solo la asiática lo hizo de forma magistral para refrendar el título. La mexicana terminó en el sexto sitio con 356.20.

La china Chen Roulin fue monarca con 422.30, seguida por la australiana Britany Broben con 366.50 y la malaya Pandelela Pamg, quien dio la sorpresa al sumar 359.20.
