Ya había sido reconocido por su hazaña como el primer velocista en competir en atletismo con piernas prostéticas en los Juegos Olímpicos, y ahora Oscar Pistorius, hace noticia también por su gran corazón.
En unas fotos tomadas en el 2009, que ahora han sido descubiertas y se han hecho virales a través de las redes sociales, se puede ver al atleta sudafricano junto a la pequeña Ellie May Challis, una niña inglesa de ocho años con quien tiene mucho en común.
El atleta de 25 años tenía solo 11 meses cuando sus doctores descubrieron que no poseía peronés en sus extremidades, lo que requirió de la amputación de ambas piernas por debajo de las rodillas. Por su parte, la niña, perdió sus dos manos y piernas a los 16 meses, después de contraer un caso severo de meningitis.
Según reportara Gawker, Ellie había sido equipada originalmente con prótesis estándar, pero estas le daban demasiada dificultad, dolor y no se amoldaban bien a su cuerpo. Por esta razón, su comunidad se reunió para levantar fondos y juntar los $15,000 necesarios para reemplazarlas por prótesis más complejas hechas de fibra, del tipo usado por Pistorious, convirtiéndose así en la persona más joven en utilizar estos equipos.
De acuerdo con Daily Mail, siguiendo el ejemplo del deportista, ahora la pequeña también se desempeña como corredora, con el apoyo de su familia y su hermana gemela, Sophie. Mientras por su parte, Pistorius demostró en los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres este año, que está equipado para competir contra los más grandes atletas, luego de enfrentarlos en la prueba de 400 metros libres, colándose hasta las semifinales.
Ahora ambos corren juntos para demostrar que no hay límites cuando existe perseverancia y se pone el corazón en todo lo que se hace.
