El alemán Matthias Steiner conmocionó a su equipo y el público presente en la competencia de levantamiento de pesas de los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres 2012 cuando falló su intento y se vio aplastado por 432 libras (196 kilogramos).

El campeón olímpico defensor recibió un tremendo golpe en la nuca y cuello, que lo dejaron tirado en la duela del recinto, ante el azoro de los espectadores. De inmediato el cuerpo médico saltó en su ayuda y al cabo de unos minutos pudo retirarse del lugar por su propio pie.

El Comité Organizador informó que el atleta fue llevado a el centro médico para tomarle placas de Rayos X.
