La estadounidense Alexandra Raisman se convirtió en nueva monarca olímpica de la prueba de piso al acumular 15.600 puntos, mientras la medalla de plata fue para la rumana Catalina Ponor, quien totalizó 15.200, en tanto que la rusa Aliya Mustafina completa el podio con 14.900, bronce.

El último trofeo dorado que repartía la gimnasia artística en Londres 2012 quedó en manos de Raisman, que estuvo certera y precisa en sus movimientos, dio pasos elegantes y con ello obtuvo 9.100 en la ejecución.

Aunado con la dificultad, 6.500, la estadounidense de 18 años de edad concluyó con acumulado de 15.600 para quedarse con el lugar de honor en el podio olímpico.

Alexandra Raisman fue escoltada por la rumana Ponor, que obtuvo 15.200 (6.200 y 9.000) y la rusa Mustafina, quien igualó en el total con la italiana Vanessa Ferrari (14.900), pero al tener mejor ejecución fue la que finalmente se quedó con el bronce.

De esta manera la gimnasia llegó a su fin en los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres 2012, donde China dominó ya que cuatro veces subió a lo más alto del podio. Estados Unidos se quedó con tres de oro, seguido por Japón, Rumania, Hungría, Brasil, Rusia, Corea del Sur y Holanda, todos con una presea áurea.

La atleta más laureada en esta disciplina fue Mustafina con cuatro metales, (una de oro, una de plata y dos de bronce), seguida por Raisman (dos de oro y una de bronce) el chino Kai Zou (dos de oro y una de bronce) y el japonés Kohei Uchimura (una de oro y dos de plata).
