El mexicano Yahel Castillo se quedó en el sexto sitio del trampolín de tres metros de los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres 2012, en donde el ruso Ilya Zakharov dio muestra de jerarquía para vencer a los chinos que hicieron el 2-3.

Esta noche en el Complejo Acuático londinense Yahel Castillo se quedó en el intento, a pesar de mostrar que iba con todo. Pero el último salto fue el que lo llevó a perder su lugar que había ocupado desde el inicio, pero el quinto marcó su destino. El mexicano sumó 492.70 unidades.

El ruso Ilya Zakharov hizo 555.90 para la medalla de oro, la plata fue para el chino Qin Kai con 541.75 y el bronce para su compatriota He Chong con 524.15.

Luego de la actuación de la tarde en la semifinal, Yahel Castillo fue colocado en el noveno puesto, pero después de él salieron el chino Qin Kai, bronce en Beijing 2008 en esta prueba, el ruso Ilya Zakharov, así como el otro chino He Chong, campeón olímpico.

Y en el primero de la noche, Yahel Castillo hizo al frente con dos y media vueltas y dos giros para sus primeros 86.70 para tener su mejor salto, pero el chino Qin Kai hizo 81.00 y el ruso Ilya Zakharov 85.00, y cerrar el asiático He Chong con 72.00.

Nada escrito hasta este momento, porque a pesar del grado de dificultad de 3.4 y 3.0 de estos cuatro competidores, aún la jornada era joven. Por lo que en la segunda parte, con el salto adentro con tres y medias vueltas, Castillo rozó el 85.00 para sumar 171.70, en tanto que Qin se fue hasta el cuarto puesto y el mexicano bajó al segundo.

Pero el ruso Zakharov subió al primer puesto. En la tercera salida al trampolín de tres metros, el español Javier Illana falla y le dieron cinco de calificación, pero el canadiense Alexandrer Despatie comenzó a dar batalla al mexicano.

Saltó con un grado de 3.8 el segundo más alto de la competición (109C) y arrancó 8.5 de los jueces para un 95.00 y total de 266.70. A escena el chino Qin Kai y le dan 9.5 y el ruso Zakharov suma 89.25 y el otro chino He hizo 89.25, estos tres últimos ejecutaron el mismo salto (307C). Yahel tomó el liderato.

El poder por las medallas estaba latente entre los últimos cuatro competidores y si alguno falla, el rumbo de la contienda cambia. Así que la concentración era primordial.

Para la cuarta ronda, Yahel salió con el inverso con tres y media vueltas con 3.5 de grado y lo hizo bien para ser calificado con 8.5 y 89.95 en total se sube a sitio de honor y la esperanza está latente. El chino Qin tira el 407C con un nueve , luego el ruso Zakharov el 5154B para unn 8.5 y finalizó He con 4007C con 8.5. Yahel sigue arriba.

La quinta fase fue determinante, los grados de dificultad ya deben pesar, Yahel salió con 3.0 (205C) por 3.8 del chino Qin (109C), pero el ruso presentó el 3.9 (5156B) y ahí estaba la clave para escalar posiciones y He hizo el mismo que su compatriota (cuatro y media vueltas al frente con 3.8).

A escena y luego un poco pasado con su ejecución lo que lo baja del oro, pero viene el chino Qin, quien con elegancia se metió al primero con 96.90, luego el ruso con 99.45 y He con 98.80. Yahel terminó tercero.

La lucha por la medalla de bronce fue entre el mexicano y el chino He Chong, campeón olímpico, quien debía ejecutar bien su último clavado (adelante con dos y media vueltas y tres giros) para meterse a las preseas, pero Yahel tuvo el inverso con dos y media vueltas con dos y medio giros (3.7).

Era la sexta ronda y las gradas vibraban ante las ejecuciones de los clavadistas. El británico Chris Mears calentaba el ambiente pero ya nada pudo hacer, aunque lo intentó. El canadiense Despatie se descontroló. La situación era tensa y con magistrales cierres de los tres últimos, el ruso Zakharov arrebató la hegemonía a los asiáticos.
