Londres — Entre ambos formarían un equipo perfecto: México es explosión en ataque y Japón le puso candado a su arco. Con semejantes antecedentes, un descuido puede resultarles fatal en este duelo del martes por las semifinales del fútbol masculino de los Juegos Olímpicos.
Ninguno de los dos han ganado el oro olímpico, pero los aztecas guardan de Japón un amargo recuerdo cuando en los Juegos de México 1968 los asiáticos embolsaron la medalla de plata al vencer 2-0 al Tri.
Para el técnico mexicano Luis Fernando Tena, no hay aroma de revancha y ni siquiera quiere transmitir a sus jugadores recuerdos del pasado.
"No pensamos que sea una revancha ni mucho menos, los jugadores que participaran ni idea tienen de eso, ni se los voy a contar", destacó Tena.
Después de 44 años volverán a medirse en una etapa semidecisiva, sin contar que en la antesala de estos juegos Japón venció 1-0 a México en un amistoso.
Ambos equipos desempolvaron en este torneo dos escuelas diferentes, la ofensiva y la defensiva. México se convirtió en una máquina en ataque ya que tiene siete goles a favor y Japón encarna la perfección atrás ya que no recibió ninguno.
Partido, entonces, de pronóstico incierto.
"Nosotros los conocemos y ellos a nosotros, lo veo con 50 por ciento de posibilidades de acceder a la final", dijo Tena. "Todos sabemos que después de cuatro partidos todos los equipos van aumentando su nivel en lo individual y en lo colectivo, las escuadras se van potencializando".
México avanzó a la penúltima fase con una victoria 4-2 ante Senegal en el estadio Wembley, en un duelo en el que el arquero del Tri Jesús Corona hizo atajadas milagrosas, mientras que Japón goleó 3-0 a Egipto en el Old Trafford de Manchester.
En la primera ronda, México venció a Gabón (2-0) y Suiza (1-0) y empató ante Corea del Sur (0-0). Japón dio la nota al vencer a España ((1-0), y para poner proa a la clasificación que alcanzó con una victoria sobre Marruecos (1-0) y un empate con Honduras (0-0).
Para los dos equipos se les presenta la gran oportunidad de acceder por primera vez a una semifinal.
Pero a Tena, esa situación lo tiene sin cuidado.
"Pensamos en como corregir en lo futbolístico y en Japón, por supuesto, pero no pensamos en nada más", subrayó Tena. "No pensamos ni en lo que puede ser historia, ni en lo que puede representar. Ya veremos que pasa".
México sufrirá la baja de Héctor Herrera, ausente por haber sufrido una segunda amonestación en el choque ante Senegal. Herrera metió el último gol tras haber reemplazado a Javier Aquino, quien volverá a salir como titular.
La victoria ante España le dio a los asiáticos un notable empujón anímico.
"Quedó demostrado que le podemos ganar a cualquiera", dijo el técnico japonés Takashi Sekizuka. "El equipo se hace más fuerte con cada partido".
El ganador de este duelo en Wembley jugará la final con el vencedor de entre de Brasil y Corea del Sur, que jugarán el martes en Manchester. Se jugará desde las 17.00 (1600 GMT).
