El brasileño Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti dio la sorpresa en la jornada olímpica al llevarse el oro en los anillos de la gimnasia artística por una décima (15.900) y bajar del trono al campeón de Beijing 2008, Chen Yibing (15.800). Italia se quedó con el bronce gracias al trabajo de Morandi Matteo (15.733).

Rusia se quedó con la cuarta y quinta posición con Balandin Aleksandr y Ablyazin Denis, respectivamente; Ramos Tommy de Puerto Rico se quedó con la sexta posición y el argentino Molinari Federico en la octava posición, ambos dos de los únicos tres latinos que se colaron a la final de anillos en la gimnasia artística este lunes.

Una historia loable es la del competidor de Bulgaria, Iovtchev Iordan, quien a sus 39 años sigue participando y con buen desempeño en un deporte considerado sólo para jóvenes. Iovtchev fue medalla de plata en Atenas 2004 y finalista en otras competencias mundiales de gimnasia artística.

Zanetti derrotó al chino y campeón vigente Chen Yibing, a quien se le conoce como "el Señor de los Anillos". Chen ha ganado cuatro de los últimos cinco campeonatos mundiales.

Cuando la puntuación de 15.9 de Zanetti apareció en el tablero, el brasileño dibujó una expresión de asombro en su rostro y el pequeño grupo de compatriotas en el estadio se enloqueció por la felicidad.

Chen debió conformarse con el segundo lugar con 15.800 y el italiano Matteo Morandi atrapó el bronce con 15.733.

Zanetti fue segundo en el Mundial del año pasado. Pero todo el mundo daba por hecho que Chen se colgaría el oro y lucía tan confiado que hizo el número uno con el dedo indíce al ser presentado.

Pero Zanetti estuvo impecable, con el derroche de control y fuerza que hacen de los anillos una competencia tan impresionante.

El puertorriqueño Tommy Ramos quedó sexto con 15.600. Federico Molinari, primer argentino en clasificarse a una final de aparatos de la gimnasia, quedó octavo y último con 14.733.
