Juegos Olímpicos: Chileno Tomás González acarició medalla en piso (FOTOS)

LONDRES (AP) — Le faltaron pocos puntos para alcanzar una medalla, pero el chileno Tomás González salió orgulloso el domingo tras quedar en el cuarto lugar de la final de gimnasia artística en piso.

El atleta de 26 años reconoció que cometió un error en su segunda diagonal de su rutina, en la que no pudo completar el giro, lo cual le fue cobrado en el puntaje, para terminar con 15.366 puntos en la prueba.

El oro fue para el chino Zou Kai, quien revalidó su título olímpico en la prueba con 15.933 puntos. El japonés Kohei Uchimura se llevó la plata y el ruso Denis Ablyazin quedó con el bronce, ambos empatados en 15.800.

"Me voy muy contento de lograr un cuarto lugar abajo de Japón, China y Rusia que son las potencias gimnásticas del mundo", declaró González al salir de la prueba. "Me siento demasiado orgulloso, nunca pensé que tendría tan buen puntaje después de fallar en la segunda diagonal".

Se vio alentado durante su actuación por numerosas banderas de su país y los gritos de "vamos Chile" en las gradas.

González es el primer chileno en clasificarse a una final olímpica de gimnasia artística y lo hizo por partida doble, porque el lunes disputará medalla en potro.

"Estoy orgulloso de ser chileno, de sacar la cara por mi país, y de haber quedado abajo solo de China Japón y Rusia", expresó eufórico. Sus marcas estuvieron encima de las alcanzadas por gimnastas de Estados Unidos, Israel, Rumania y Alemania.

Para la prueba del lunes, en potro, González dijo que su expectativa es no cometer errores en la caída. "Es un aparato impredecible, el tiempo es muy corto y cualquier cosa puede pasar en la caída", explicó.

Su expectativa es alcanzar un puntaje de al menos 16.200 "y esperar a ver cómo les va a los demás".
