LONDRES (AP) — Eterno enamorado de los reflectores, Usain Bolt no demoró mucho en hacer que el planeta dejara de hablar de Michael Phelps.

Hazte a un lado Aquaman, Flash entró en escena.

Un día después que Phelps se retiró de la piscina con su 18va medalla de oro y encendió al rojo vivo la discusión sobre el mejor atleta olímpico de todos los tiempos, el velocista jamaicano se metió de lleno en la conversación al revalidar su título de los 100 metros planos con otro tiempo de extraterrestre.

Paró el reloj en 9.63 segundos. Sólo una persona en la historia corrió el hectómetro más rápido, en apenas cinco centésimas menos. ¿Su nombre? Usain Bolt.

Faltan siete días para que concluyan los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres y Bolt todavía puede embolsar otras dos medallas de oro, en los 200 metros y el relevo 4x100. De conseguirlo, tendrá seis en dos olimpiadas y será difícil alegar que no es el mejor velocista de todos los tiempos.

Entonces habría que empezar a ponerlo en la balanza histórica con titanes como Phelps, Carl Lewis y Jesse Owens.

"No cabe duda que ahora es el mejor velocista en la historia", zanjó Richard Thompson, el corredor de Trinidad y Tobago que cruzó la meta séptimo en la final.

En el tenis no hay discusión sobre quién es el mejor: se trata de Roger Federer, el dueño de todas las marcas importantes y a quien sólo le falta la medalla de oro olímpica para completar el Golden Slam en su carrera.

Pues resulta que el suizo, de 30 años, quizás nunca lo consiga.

Un Federer inusualmente sumiso perdió la final del tenis masculino 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 ante el británico Andy Murray, para el deleite de la afición local que deliró en la Cancha Central de Wimbledon.

Hace menos de un mes, Murray no pudo contener el llanto al agradecer el respaldo del público tras perder la final de Wimbledon frente a Federer, su tercer revés frente a la leyenda suiza en una final de Grand Slam.

El oro olímpico no será lo mismo que un major, pero sin duda es una dulce venganza.

"Ha sido la mejor semana de mi carrera como tenista, por mucho", confesó el escocés. "He sufrido muchas derrotas duras. Esta es la mejor forma de recuperarme de la final de Wimbledon. Nunca lo olvidaré".

Las hermanas Serena y Venus Williams, por su parte, ganaron su tercer oro en los dobles de mujeres, un día después que Serena ganó el título de individuales.

Cada una tiene cuatro oros olímpicos, a uno del récord que tiene la británica Kathleen McKane, y ya adelantaron que no piensan colgar las raquetas.

"Intentaremos ganar alguna medalla en Río de Janeiro (2016)", avisó Serena.

El triunfo de Murray relegó a un segundo plano el sinsabor británico por haber perdido apenas su segunda final en el ciclismo de pista, donde el danés Lasse Norman Hansen se impuso en la prueba del omnium.

China, en cambio, no afloja su monopolio en los clavados luego del 1-2 de Wu Minxia y He Zi en el trampolín de tres metros. La mexicana Laura Sánchez se llevó el bronce, la tercera medalla de su país en los clavados —y quinta en total— en Londres.

El oro chino en los clavados —y otros dos en bádminton y uno en pesas— dejaron al gigante asiático en la cima del medallero con 30 preseas doradas, 17 de plata y 14 de bronce.

Estados Unidos marcha segundo con 28-14-18, mientras que Gran Bretaña se acomodó en el tercer puesto con 16-11-10.

Colombia conquistó su tercera medalla de plata, y cuarta total en Londres, gracias al segundo puesto de Caterine Ibargüen en el salto triple, mientras que Argentina debutó en el podio con el bronce de Juan Martín del Potro en el tenis.
