Londres — En su primer acto de los Juegos de Londres, Usain Bolt cumplió con lo mínimo necesario para pasar a los semifinales de los 100 metros, al recuperarse de un lento inicio e imponerse el sábado en su eliminatoria con tiempo de 10.09 segundos.

Yohan Blake, su compatriota y némesis, también hizo lo suyo con 10.00 al completar al trote el trámite de ganar su eliminatoria.

Bolt fue la figura de los Juegos de Beijing hace cuatro años, al arrasar los oros con récords mundiales en los 100, 200 y el relevo 4x100. Fue algo sin precedentes en una olimpiada. En el Mundial de 2009, el jamaicano rompió su plusmarca de los 100 al cronometrar 9.58, la cual sigue vigente.

Pero sus recientes actuaciones han quedado debiendo. Una salida en falso lo dejó fuera de la final del Mundial del año pasado y fue derrotado por Blake en los 100 y 200 en el Preolímpico de Jamaica el mes pasado.

Su tiempo de reacción en la salida fue apenas el sexto mejor en la eliminatoria que disputó el sábado.

Lo otro atractivo de la jornada matinal en el Estadio Olímpico fue el debut olímpico de Oscar Pistorious, el sudafricano que compite con protésis, y la sorprevisa eliminación de la brasileña Fabiana Murer, la actual campeona del mundo en el salto con pértiga al no poder superar la marca de 4,55 metros en la fase clasificatoria.

En los 400, el campeón vigente LaShawn Merritt abandonó su carrera preliminar por una dolencia en la corva izquierda. Merritt arrancó mal, quedó rezagado y se detuvo después de unos 200 metros.

La baja de Merritt abre las puertas al adolescente dominicano Luguelín Santos, quien logró el tiempo más rápido.

Santos se impuso en la primera serie de los 400 con 45.04 segundos. El dominicano corrió al lado Pistorius, segundo clasificado tras cronometrar 45.44.

"Ha sido algo excelente", admitió Santos, de 19 años. "Admiro mucho a Pistorius, su fuerza al correr sin extremidades".
