Erick Barrondo ganó el sábado la primera medalla de Guatemala en la historia de los Juegos Olímpicos al terminar segundo en la marcha de 20 kilómetros en Londres.

Barrondo conquistó la plata con tiempo de 1:18.57, a 11 segundos del campeón chino Ding Chen. El chino Zhen Wang se llevó el bronce, a 28 segundos del guatemalteco.

El marchista de 21 años fue campeón panamericano el año pasado en Guadalajara y terminó 10mo en el mundial de 2011 en Daegu, Corea del Sur.
