LONDRES .- Victoria Pendleton dejó atrás la amargura de su descalificación en la prueba de velocidad por equipos y conquistó el viernes la keirin femenina, una de las dos medallas de oro que ganó Gran Bretaña en el ciclismo olímpico de pista.

La otra victoria llegó en la persecución masculina por equipos, en la que los británicos fijaron un récord mundial.

El título de Pendeleton se suma al de velocidad individual que se llevó hace cuatro años en Beijing y pone un broche de oro a su carrera, pues la ciclista ha dicho que se retirará después de estos juegos.

Pendleton tomó la punta poco antes del inicio de la última vuelta y resistió la arremetida de la china Guo Shuang, quien se llevó la medalla de plata.

Lee Wai Sze, de Hong Kong, capturó el bronce.

Pendleton quedó destrozada tras la descalificación en las preliminares de la velocidad por equipos, en la que las británicas habían roto el récord mundial. Pero se repuso para la keirin y fue ovacionada por 6.000 espectadores en el Velódromo Olímpico.

El equipo masculino de persecución refrendó con récord mundial el título ganado en Beijing.

Edward Clancy, Geraint Thomas, Steven Burke y Peter Kennaugh cronometraron tres minutos, 51.659 segundos y le sacaron casi un segundo a la marca de 3:52.499 que habían impuesto un día antes en la eliminatoria.

Los australianos Jack Bobridge, Glenn O'Seha, Rohan Dennis y Michael Hepburn, finalizaron con un registro de 3:54.581, para obtener la presea plateada.

El tercer lugar quedó en manos de Nueva Zelanda, que se impuso a Rusia y consiguió su segundo bronce olímpico consecutivo en esta prueba.
