Esta novena jornada vivimos nuevamente la emoción de ver al nadador estadounidense Michael Phelps ganar otra medalla de oro que suma a sus ya 20 medallas olímpicas. A continuación haremos un recorrido por los momentos que marcaron la jornada olímpica este viernes 03 de agosto.

Lo dramático: El triunfo agónico del suizo Roger Federer al obtener su pase a la final de tenis varonil y dejar atrás al argentino Juan Martín del Potro, quien disputará la medalla de bronce ante el serbio Novak Djokovic. Su adversario será el británico Andy Murray, quien también sufrió para lograr su pase al vencer al serbio.

Lo sorprendente: Brasil quedó fuera del fútbol femenil pese a ser una de las escuadras favoritas para llevarse el oro. Otra sorpresa se la llevó el equipo varonil de voleibol de playa de Estados Unidos al ser derrotados por Italia. La selección estadounidense era la favorita para repetir el oro olímpico en Londres 2012.

Lo dorado: Gran Bretaña rompió su propio récord mundial y refrendó el viernes su título olímpico en la persecución, del ciclismo de pista, ante el júbilo del público local. Phelps se lleva otra medalla de oro en natación, la número 21 en su historia. Katie Ledecky, Michael Phelps y Missy Franklin (con record mundial) ganaron oro para EE.UU.

Los cubanos Leuris Pupo y Idalys Ortiz se adjudicaron el viernes sus dos primeras medallas de oro en la capital británica —en judo y tiro— y de un plumazo igualaron la cosecha dorada de hace cuatro años en China.

Lo aplaudible: La kazaja Svetlana Podobedova triunfó el viernes en un duelo lleno de tensión sobre la rusa Natalya Zabolotnaya, para obtener la medalla de oro en el último levantamiento, dentro de la categoría de 75 kilogramos de las pesas en Londres 2012. Ambas pesistas rompieron el récord olímpico en la misma competencia.

La nadadora estadounidense Franklin impuso nuevo récord en la competencia 200 metros estilo espalda, al realizar 2 minutos con 4 segundos y 6 centésimas para superar por 0.75 segundos la marca que la zimbabwense Kirsty Coventry impuso en el mundial de 2009 en Roma.

Lo curioso de las Olimpiadas: El nadador estadounidense Ryan Lochte admitió ante una emisora de su país haber orinado en la alberca olímpica.

Lo lamentable: Una fractura en el tobillo derecho a principios de año afectó la preparación y el desempeño de la pesista chilena María Valdés París, que expresó decepción el viernes por su desempeño en la categoría de 75 kilos en los Juegos Olímpicos.

Lo vergonzoso: La ciclista rusa de pista Victoria Baranova fue expulsada de los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres, tras dar positivo en un análisis antidopaje.
