WINDSOR, Inglaterra (AP) — Nathan Cohen y Joseph Sullivan añadieron un título olímpico a su palmarés, que incluye dos campeonatos mundiales, y dieron el jueves a Nueva Zelanda su primera presea de oro en Londres 2012, al imponerse en la modalidad de un par de remos cortos sin timonel en el Lago Dorney.

Cohen y Sullivan, que rompieron el récord olímpico en las eliminatorias, se llevaron el oro con un tiempo de seis minutos, 31.67 segundos. Italia se quedó con la plata, a media embarcación de distancia, y Eslovenia consiguió el bronce.

La regata final no contó con la participación de los australianos David Crawshay y Scott Brennan, campeones en Beijing 2008, ni de los alemanes Hans Gruhne y Stephan Kruger, los favoritos. Ambas duplas fueron eliminadas en las semifinales.
