LONDRES .- Vitaliy Fridzon anotó un triple con cuatro segundos por jugar y Rusia venció el jueves 75-74 a Brasil para mantener el paso invicto y la mira puesta en la siguiente ronda del básquetbol de los Juegos Olímpicos.

Marcelinho Huertas le dio ventaja de 74-72 a Brasil con 6.1 segundos en el reloj, pero Fridzon anotó luego su triple desde la esquina izquierda y en una posición incómoda y fuera de balance, aprovechando que Leandro Barbosa se cayó al intentar defenderlo.

"Estoy seguro que si intenta 10 veces ese tiro lo falla nueve y estaríamos hablando de otra cosa", dijo Huertas. "Pero lo metió, hay que darle crédito porque se estaba cayendo y nosotros debemos levantar la cara, porque el triunfo fue nuestro y simplemente se nos resbaló".

Barbosa falló un último intento por Brasil.

"Estoy molesto, es una derrota que duele por la forma en que se dio, pero como dice el libro, tenemos que hacernos fuertes en estos momentos", dijo el entrenador de Brasil, el argentino Rubén Magnano. "Rescato que nos levantamos de una desventaja de 12 puntos con mucho coraje, pero al final no sirvió de nada".

Andrei Kirilenko anotó 19 puntos, Timofey Mozgov agregó 18 unidades y Alexey Shved sumó 17 por los rusos, que con sus tres victorias lideran el Grupo B y ahora medirán fuerzas con el campeón europeo, España, el sábado.

Barbosa anotó 16 puntos por Brasil, que sufrió su primer revés del torneo pero con sus dos victorias sigue en la pelea por clasificarse a la siguiente ronda.

Brasil enfrenta el sábado a China.

"Tenemos que olvidar ya a Rusia y pensar que ganándole a China por lo menos aseguramos la clasificación como terceros del grupo", agregó Huertas.

Los sudamericanos tomaron ventaja de 20-15 luego del primer cuarto, pero los rusos se fueron arriba al descanso 40-32.

En el arranque del período final, Brasil empató el partido 63-63 con 5:38 por jugar con un enceste de Barbosa y tomó la delantera con dos tiros libres de Nene con 3:40 restantes.

Brasil se fue arriba por tres en el minuto final, pero Fridzon lo empató con su primer triple del encuentro con 26.3 segundos por jugar, y definió el encuentro con su segundo tiro de larga distancia, para sus seis únicos puntos del partido.

España sufre pero vence a Gran Bretaña

España mantuvo el paso perfecto en el básquetbol masculino de los Juegos Olímpicos al imponerse el jueves ajustadamente 79-78 a Gran Bretaña.

José Calderón anotó 19 puntos y tuvo un robo clave al final del partido por los españoles, que empatan a Rusia en la cima del Grupo B y con un triunfo más asegurarían el pasaje a la ronda de cuartos de final.


Pau Gasol anotó 17 tantos y su hermano Marc Gasol agregó 12 más por España, medallista de plata en Beijing 2008 y que en la próxima jornada se topará con Rusia precisamente por el liderato del grupo.


Luol Deng anotó 26 puntos por Gran Bretaña, que permanece en el fondo del grupo con tres derrotas.


España no contó con su capitán Juan Carlos Navarro por segundo encuentro consecutivo debido a una lesión en el pie izquierdo y a pesar de eso tomó el mando del partido desde el inicio con un dominio claro de los hermanos Gasol debajo de los tableros.


Los equipos se fueron al descanso con España arriba 37-29 y en la segunda mitad los españoles se alejaron a 13 puntos.


Una furiosa reacción británica acortó esa diferencia a dos unidades al final del partido, hasta que llegó el robo de Calderón y España se alejó nuevamente cuando faltaban 44.6 segundos.


Calderón encestó cuatro tiros libres en los segundos finales.
