Londres — Otros dos récords mundiales cayeron el miércoles en la natación olímpica, en la que Estados Unidos acentuó su dominio apuntándose dos medallas de oro.

El húngaro Daniel Gyurta impuso un récord mundial en los 200 metros estilo pecho al cronometrar 2 minutos, 7.28 segundos, rebanándole tres centésimas a la vieja marca del australiano Christian Sprenger, lograda en el campeonato mundial del 2009 usando un traje de baño hoy prohibido.

Gyurta le sacó 15 centésimas al británico Michael Jamieson, que se llevó la plata. El bronce fue para el japonés Ryo Tateishi.

La otra marca mundial la consiguió la estadounidense Rebecca Soni al cronometrar 2:20.00 en las semifinales de los 200 pecho, bajándole 12 centésimas al registro que la canadiense Annamay Pierse hizo en el mundial del 2009.

Fue el quinto récord mundial de natación que cae en Londres 2012.

Soni era la favorita para ganar los 100 pecho, pero fue derrotada por la lituana Ruta Meilutyte, de 15 años, y se tuvo que contentar con la plata. Meilutyte no corrió en los 200.

Los estadounidenses llegaron a siete medallas de oro con los triunfos de Nathan Adrian en los 100 libre y del relevo femenino de 4x200 libre. Su rival más cercano, China, tiene cuatro. En el total de medallas, los estadounidenses suman 17 contra ocho de los chinos.

Adrian se impuso en una prueba extremadamente reñida, superando por una centésima al australiano James Gagnussen, que se alzó con la plata.

El estadounidense cronometró 47.52 segundos y Gagnussen 47.53.

"No sabía que había ganado", declaró Adrian. "Soy rápido y puedo tomar velocidad rápidamente. Pero los últimos 50 metros fueron mortales".

El canadiense Brent Hayden se llevó el bronce.

El brasileño César Cielo, que tiene el récord mundial de esta prueba, fue un fiasco y finalizó sexto, mientras que el cubano Hánser García entró séptimo.

Cielo dijo que se tomó las cosas con calma, pensando acelerar al final, pero la estrategia no le funcionó. El brasileño irá el jueves por el oro en los 50 libre, en que también tiene el récord mundial.

Estados Unidos estaba detrás de Australia promediando el relevo de 4x200 libre, pero terminó ganando por amplio margen en 7:42.92. Australia se quedó con la plata y Francia con el bronce.

La otra final de la jornada se la adjudicó la china Jiao Liuyang en los 200 mariposa, con un tiempo de 2:04.06 segundos. La plata fue para Mireia Belmonte, que le regaló a España su primera medalla de los juegos, y el bronce para la japonesa Natsumi Hoshi.

El japonés Kosuke Kitajima entró cuarto en los 200 pecho y se quedó con las ganas de pasar a la historia como el primer nadador que gana tres veces seguidas una misma prueba.

Kitajima punteó al principio, pero luego fue rebasado y no alcanzó el podio por seis centésimas.

El norteamericano Michael Phelps podría quedarse con ese honor si triunfa el jueves en los 200 combinados, a cuya final avanzó el miércoles con el segundo tiempo. El primero fue el de su compatriota Ryan Lochte, que ya lo venció en los 400 combinados.
