Día siete de los Juegos Olímpicos de Verano de Londres 2012. Éste se marcó con el comienzo de algunas grandes victorias para los EE.UU., quien supera a China en el número total de medallas. Sin embargo, China todavía tiene el plomo en oro.

Entre las acciones destacadas está el triunfo de Estados Unidos sobre Rusia y Rumania, al llevarse el oro en gimnasia, el primer premio en la gimnasia por primera vez desde 1996. El equipo, compuesto por Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman, Douglas Gabby, Kyla Ross y Maroney McKayla, obtuvo 183,596 en general, superando a 178,530 de Rusia y Rumanía 176,414.

La hazaña: Michael Phelps estuvo a punto de hacer otra vez la historia olímpica con su medalla número 18 de oro, pero Chad Le Clos de Sudáfrica le puso el alto y se llevó la medalla dorada en mariposa de 200 metros. Phelps ya había ganado la carrera en los dos últimos Juegos Olímpicos.

Lo bueno: México se bañó de plata por segundo día consecutivo al llevarse las clavadistas Paola Espinosa y Alejandra Orozco la medalla de plata en clavados sincronizados.

Lo lamentable: La salida del judoca estadounidense Travis Stevens, promesa de medalla para el país pero quien cayera en semifinales en la disciplina.

Lo feo: El COI salió en defensa de la sensación china de la natación, Ye Shiwen, después que la adolescente destrozó el récord mundial de los 400 metros combinados. El vocero del Comité Olímpico Internacional, Mark Adams, exhortó a los críticos a que "sean serios" y señaló que es "muy triste" que no se puedan festejar las grandes gestas deportivas.

Los acontecimientos del martes incluyen rondas de clasificación en tiro con arco, bádminton, baloncesto, voleibol de playa, boxeo, hockey sobre hierba, balonmano, remo, vela, fútbol, tenis de mesa, tenis, voleibol y waterpolo -, además de eventos de medallas en piragüismo, buceo, equitación, esgrima , gimnasia, judo, tiro, natación y halterofilia.
