Germán Sánchez e Iván García le dieron a México su primera medalla en los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres 2012 el lunes al conquistar la plata en los clavados sincronizados desde plataforma de 10 metros.
Sánchez, quien participó en Beijing 2008 y el debutante García, de apenas 18 años, sumaron 468.90 puntos para quedar por detrás de los chinos Cao Yuan y Zhang Yanquan, quienes sumaron 486.78 para llevarse el oro.
El bronce fue para la pareja estadounidense integrada por Nicholas McCrory y David Buodia con 463.47. Los cubanos Jeinkler Aguirre y José Antonio Guerra terminaron quintos, con 450.90.
Fue la vigésima plata en la historia olímpica de México, y primera desde que Belem Guerrero e Iridia Salazar se llevaron el mismo metal en Atenas 2004.
De esas 20 medallas plateadas, México ha ganado cuatro en la fosa de clavados. Además de la de García y Sánchez, los mexicanos fueron sido segundos con Alvaro Gaxiola en 1968, y Carlos Girón y Fernando Platas en 1980.
México sumó medallas en clavados por segundos Olímpicos, luego que Paola Espinosa y Tatiana Ortiz se llevaron bronce en plataforma de mujeres en 2008 en Beijing.
Sánchez y García habían ganado medallas de oro en los Centroamericanos de Mayagüez 2010 y en los Panamericanos de Guadalajara 2011.
