El ciclista mexicano Héctor Hugo Rangel cumplió con su cometido de concluir su actuación de la prueba de Gran Fondo de los Juegos Olímpicos en el sitio 39, en donde la sorpresa la dio el colombiano Rigoberto Uran, quien ganó medalla de plata.

Fueron cerca de seis horas las que invirtieron los competidores, para cumplir con los 240.50 kilómetros de recorrido por los alrededores de esta ciudad y que al final llegaron a un costado del Palacio de Buckingham, ante cientos de aficionados que en su mayoría apoyaban a los competidores británicos.

Sin embargo, la fiesta no pudo ser porque tanto Mark Cavendish (29) como el recién ganador de la Tour de Francia, Bradley Wiggins, quien al final no pudo dar batalla a los demás corredores, aunque quiso meterse al final en la carrera las piernas no le respondieron.

Por lo que el ganador fue el kazako Alexandr Vinokourov con tiempo final de 5:45.57 horas, seguido del colombiano Rigoberto Urán con el mismo tiempo que el triunfador y de esta manera dio la primera medalla para su país en la competición de Gran Fondo de los Juegos Olímpicos Londres 2012.

La medalla de bronce quedó en poder del noruego Alexander Kristoff con 5:46.05 horas.

Mientras, el mexicano Héctor Hugo Rangel tuvo una de las mejores actuaciones del ciclismo de su país en una justa de este tipo al entrar en el puesto 39 con un crono de 5:46.37 horas y de esta manera cerrar con mejor posición que el hecho por Moises Aldape en Beijing 2008.

Las condiciones no fueron de lo mejor, ya que el trazado llano de la carrera permitió que los más rápidos y con fuerza en la piernas se fueran con mucho más habilidad, a pesar de que por momentos flaquearon por lo pesado de la prueba.

Por eso los marcados como favoritos -Cavendish, Wiggins y el suizo Cancellara- se relegaron poco a poco a pesar de mantener buen ritmo en la contienda ciclista.
