LONDRES (AP) — Un arquero surcoreano, prácticamente ciego, estableció el viernes dos récords mundiales, los primeros que caen en los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres.

Con una suma 699 puntos, Im Dong-hyun rompió la marca individual de la modalidad de 72 flechas del tiro con arco, que al igual que el fútbol, comenzó actividad antes de la inauguración oficial de Londres 2012. Im superó por tres puntos el récord previo de 699, que él mismo fijó en Turquía el pasado mayo.

Además, Im participó en la competencia por equipos, al lado de Kim bub-min y Oh Jin-hyek, para quebrar otro récord del mundo, al totalizar 2.087 unidades en las 216 flechas. Ese acumulado eclipsó por 18 el récord previo, también establecido en mayo.

El tirador de 26 años se colgó medallas de oro en la prueba de equipos tanto en los Juegos de Beijing y Atenas. Apenas tiene 10% de visión en el ojo izquierdo y 20% en el derecho.

Ha dicho que, cuando apunta a los objetivos, mira colores con líneas borrosas. No usa anteojos en la competencia, así que básicamente depende en saber distinguir los colores brillantes del blanco.
