Pumas hizo cambios radicales para dejar en el pasado los últimos dos torneos, en los que ni siquiera pudo calificar a la liguilla, y entre las transformaciones que llevó a cabo una de las más importantes fue que hizo a un lado su filosofía de apostar por su cantera, ya que en esta ocasión abrió la cartera para contratar jugadores.

Pero los movimientos no solamente fueron a nivel de jugadores, ya que para que se dieran éstos, Jorge Borja fue nombrado presidente del patronato y Alberto García Aspe, vicepresidente deportivo, quienes entendieron a la perfección las necesidades del conjunto felino para ir en busca de sus objetivos y no dudaron en traer a jugadores de renombre.

Además, ambos directivos, luego de la salida del timonel Guillermo Vázquez Jr, se la jugarán en el banquillo para este Torneo Apertura con Joaquín del Olmo, quien ya sabe lo que es ganar un título cono entrenador -subió a la máxima categoría al Tijuana en 2011-, a pesar de que éste haya sido en la liga de ascenso, y, lo más importante, como futbolista fue dos veces campeón con Pumas.

"No soy de los técnicos que dicen que en la jornada cinco van a ver al verdadero Pumas, aquí no, aquí desde la primera jornada vamos a salir a ganar", dijo en un entrenamiento el nuevo estratega del cuadro auriazul en conferencia de prensa en Ciudad Universitaria.

Para este nuevo torneo que está por comenzar, la directiva universitaria trajo a sus filas al catalán Luis García y a los argentinos Martín Romagnoli y Emanuel Villa, reforzando con estas incorporaciones su sector delantero, una zona que fue clave para que el equipo fracasara en las dos últimas justas, además de traer de regreso a Jaime Lozano, Jehu chiapas y Fernando Espinosa.

Pero en los juegos de pretemporada a Pumas no le fue del todo bien, pues Del Olmo estuvo variando mucho sus alineaciones y no dejó ver la que podría ser la buena al inicio de la justa azteca; sin embargo, los expertos en la materia consideran que este podría ser su once titular: Alejandro Palacios, en la portería; Efraín Velarde, Darío Verón, Marco Antonio Palacios y Luis Fuentes, en la defensa; Carlos Orrantia, Martín Romagnoli y Javier Cortés en el mediocampo; y en la delantera Emanuel Villa, Martín Bravo y Luis García.
