KIEV (AP) — Fue una victoria de todos, pero Iker Casillas estableció un hito cuando España venció el domingo 4-0 a Italia en la final de la Eurocopa.

Y por tercera vez al capitán le tocó el honor de alzar el trofeo de campeón de un título en las grandes citas del fútbol mundial.

Además, el arquero del Real Madrid se convirtió en el primer jugador que consigue 100 victorias con la selección nacional.

"Es el momento más maravilloso del fútbol español. Ojalá se pueda repetir pero la edad no pasa en balde", dijo Casillas, quien tiene 31 años. "Hemos ganado con nuestras características y tocando la pelota como la que hemos tocado, hemos sabido resolverlo bien".

Cada vez que Italia tuvo un arrebato de reacción, Casillas se hizo presente con su seguridad y reflejos.

Manoteó peligrosos centros en ambos tiempos y se lució en un mano a mano con Antonio Di Natale, rechazándole su remate.

En toda esta Eurocopa, Casillas sólo una vez tuvo que ir a recoger un balón dentro su portería. Ese fue el gol de Di Natale en el primer partido de la fase de grupos

Más notable son sus números en partidos de eliminación directa en los grandes torneos, ya que no le anotado un gol desde el tanto de Zinedine Zidane para Francia en el Mundial de Alemania 2006. Han transcurrido 10 partidos desde entonces.

"Hacemos fácil lo difícil. No ha sido un paseo", afirmó. "Podíamos haber quedado fuera en semifinales y hemos ido de menos a más".
