DONETSK, Ucrania (AP) — El debate actual sobre si el fútbol requiere del uso de tecnología para decidir cuando el balón rebasa la línea de gol cobró nueva fuerza el martes, después de que no se concedió al delantero ucraniano Marko Devic un gol válido frente a Inglaterra.

El zaguero John Terry despejó el balón pero la repetición en video mostró que la pelota había rebasado la línea de meta.

Si ese gol hubiera sido válido a los 62 minutos, Ucrania habría empatado el cotejo. Inglaterra se impuso 1-0 para avanzar a los cuartos de final.

Y el hombre que tenía quizás la mejor visibilidad de la jugada, el juez de gol o quinto árbitro de la UEFA estaba a 10 metros, pero no marcó la anotación.

La FIFA decidirá el 5 de julio si aprueba el nuevo sistema de jueces de gol, probado en la Eurocopa de 2012, así como dos sistemas electrónicos instalados en los arcos.
