LVIV, Ucrania (AP) — Silvestre Varela anotó en la agonía del partido y Portugal derrotó el miércoles 3-2 a Dinamarca para salir a flote en la Eurocopa.

Varela salió de la banca a los 84 minutos y marcó a los 87.

Pepe abrió la cuenta por los lusitanos con un cabezazo a los 24 minutos y Helder Postiga hizo el otro tanto a los 37. Nicklas Bendtner anotó los dos goles daneses a los 41 y 80.

"Demostramos una gran personalidad al seguir buscando el triunfo, luego de permitir el gol del empate al final", comentó el técnico de Portugal, Paulo Bento.

El gol de Varela rescató a Cristiano Ronaldo, quien se perdió al menos dos goles cantados por Portugal, incluyendo un mano a mano con el arquero danés Stephan Andersen en los minutos finales que hubiese puesto el marcador 3-1. Justo después de esa pifia, Bendtner empató el encuentro.

"Debimos haber sentenciado el partido antes", comentó Bento. "Tuvimos suficientes oportunidades".

Portugal y Dinamarca quedaron con tres puntos en el Grupo B, que completan Alemania y Holanda.
