MIAMI (AP) — Kevin Garnett totalizó 26 puntos y 11 rebotes, Paul Pierce encestó un triple frente a LeBron James a un minuto del final, y los Celtics de Boston se colocaron a un triunfo de amarrar el título de la Conferencia del Este, al vencer el martes 94-90 al Heat de Miami.

Pierce anotó 19 puntos por los Celtics, que han ganado tres encuentros en fila para tomar la ventaja por 3-2 en la serie.

"No hemos logrado nada", dijo el entrenador de los Celtics, Doc Rivers. "Estamos jugando como un gran equipo. Pero sólo por el hecho de que vamos a Boston les he dicho a mis jugadores que tenemos que jugar mejor. Nadie nos regalará el partido. Hay que ganarlo".

Cuando hizo su disparo frente a James, que estiró el brazo para impedir el enceste, Pierce se quedó mirando el balón. Al entrar éste a la cesta, Pierce corrió hacia el banquillo de Boston, meneando la cabeza en señal de incredulidad.

Fue el mejor disparo de la noche, sin duda. Y dejó al Heat en graves problemas en la final del Este.

"No hubiéramos querido estar en esta situación, pero nunca dejamos que nos rebase el entusiasmo o el pesimismo en una serie", dijo James. "Tuvimos la oportunidad de venir a casa para tomar la ventaja pero no lo hicimos. Hay que ir a Boston y ganar un partido".

James totalizó 30 puntos y 13 rebotes por Miami, aunque pasó ocho minutos sin anotar en el último cuarto. Dwyane Wade sumó 27 unidades por el Heat, que no tuvo aportes de más de nueve puntos por parte de otro jugador.

El triple de Pierce, a 53 segundos del timbrazo, puso a Boston arriba por 90-86. Miami se acercó dos veces a un par de puntos, y sus jugadores reclamaron un supuesto robo de balón a 8,8 segundos del final.

En vez de ello, se marcó una falta a Udonis Haslem. Garnett convirtió los dos tiros libres y los Celtics supieron que sí había un hurto. Le acababan de robar el triunfo a Miami en su propia cancha.

El sexto encuentro está previsto para la noche del jueves en Boston, donde los Celtics tratarán de asegurarse un viaje a Oklahoma City o San Antonio, para el primer duelo de la final de la NBA.

Los Celtics estuvieron abajo por 13 puntos en el segundo periodo y por nueve en el tercero. En ambas ocasiones respondieron, para salir adelante en una noche en que acertaron apenas el 41% de sus disparos y fueron superados en el rubro de los rebotes, por 49-39.

Ray Allen y Mickael Pietrus anotaron 13 puntos cada uno por los Celtics, que agradecieron también una contribución de 10 unidades de Brandon Bass.

Los Celtics llegaron al duelo del martes con una foja perfecta de 8-0 en esta situación —un quinto partido con la serie empatada a 2— en la época en que han jugado para el equipo Pierce, Garnett, Rondo y Allen.

El récord mejoró aun más.
