PARIS (AP) — El delantero italiano Mario Balotelli advirtió que se irá del campo de juego si oye cánticos racistas insultantes en los estadios durante la Eurocopa que se jugará el mes próximo en Polonia y Ucrania.

Balotelli fue más allá y dijo que si le tiran una banana, "iré preso porqué le mataré".

La amenaza de Balotelli fue publicada en la revista France Football mientras arrecian las preocupaciones de que el torneo continental se vea afectado por el racismo.

Las autoridades inglesas advirtieron que los matones derechistas del fútbol podrían provocar hechos de violencia durante el certamen del 8 de junio al 1 de julio.

Las familias de dos de los futbolistas negros de Inglaterra, Theo Walcott y Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, han indicado que es improbable que viajen a presenciar el torneo por temor a abusos raciales.

Balotelli dijo a la publicación francesa que está apabullado por el racismo en el deporte. Nació en Italia de padres ghaneses.

"No puedo tolerar el racismo. No lo acepto", dijo el futbolista en una entrevista con la revista. Recordó un incidente en el 2009 cuando le arrojaron bananas en un bar en Roma.

"Esos dos o tres muchachos tuvieron suerte de que la policía llegara inmediatamente porque juro que les habría dado una paliza", afirmó Balotelli. "Espero que no vuelva a suceder. Si alguien me tira bananas en la calle, iré preso porque lo mataré".

"Si eso vuelve a ocurrir (en la Eurocopa), dejaré la cancha inmediatamente y me iré a casa", dijo el jugador. "Veamos qué ocurre en la Euro. Espero que no haya ningún problema".

Balotelli fue campeón de la liga italiana tres veces con el Inter de Milán antes de pasar al Manchester City en el 2010, equipo que acaba de ganar la liga Premier inglesa.
