BUENOS AIRES (AP) — Lionel Messi dijo el martes que está "sorprendido y a la vez triste" por la reciente renuncia de Pep Guardiola como técnico del Barcelona, club en el que ambos se cubrieron de gloria al ganar títulos a granel.

El fenomenal atacante argentino recordó que con Guardiola estuvieron cuatro temporadas juntos para sumar 14 títulos sobre 19 posibles, el último de ellos la Copa del Rey al apabullar 3-0 al Athletic de Bilbao. Fue la última vez que Guardiola dirigió al Barsa.

"La salida de Guardiola me dejó sorprendido y a la vez triste porque no la esperábamos", dijo Messi en reunión de prensa tras un entrenamiento con la selección de Argentina, que se prepara para el choque el sábado en Buenos Aires ante Ecuador por las eliminatorias mundialistas.

"No esperábamos (la renuncia de Guardiola); fueron cuatro años donde vivimos muchas cosas lindas; nos tocó conseguir muchos títulos", destacó Messi, considerado el mejor jugador del mundo. "Ahora empieza una nueva etapa y esperemos que sea de la misma manera".

Messi destacó que "no es fácil reemplazar a Guardiola después de todo lo que consiguió".

Pero ponderó a Tito Vilanova, sucesor de Guardiola y cuyo debut se producirá en la Supercopa de España que se disputará en agosto.

"Yo lo tuve a Vilanova (como técnico) cuando era chico", dijo Messi. "Y Guardiola muchas veces dijo que todo lo que hacían lo hacían juntos" porque era su ayudante.

Messi convirtió 73 goles en una sola temporada europea, superando los 67 tantos del alemán Gerd Muller en 1973.

Al respecto dijo que no piensa si esas dianas serán suficientes como para ser consagrado por cuarta vez como el mejor jugador del mundo.

"De acá a enero queda muchísimo tiempo y quedan cosas importantes por jugar", subrayó "La Pulga", de 24 años.

Al ganar la Copa del Rey, cuando Messi marcó uno de los tres goles del Barsa, el club catalán sumó el cuarto trofeo de una temporada con altibajos, en la que además ganó las Supercopas de España y Europa y el Mundial de Clubes.

Pero como contrapartida perdió su corona en la liga española y la Liga de Campeones.
