Eugenio Derbez juega con su propio talento, especialmente cuando se trata de responder la trillada pregunta, pero siempre interesante respuesta del actor, de si sus papeles en Hollywood responden a estereotipos o no. En México es uno de los innegables comediantes de los últimos tiempos, sin embargo en Hollywood, lo mismo es alabado como criticado.

La serie cómica 'Rob', de la cadena CBS, dejó muchas interrogantes en relación con el papel interpretado por Derbez. Su más reciente película 'Girl in Progress', que significa su sexta película en Hollywood, también. Aún de la mano de la directora de origen mexicano, Patricia Riggen ('La misma Luna’), Derbez encarna en este último filme el papel del galán no correspondido de Eva Mendes; quien es un lavaplatos, bastante despeinado y descuidado, luchando por llamar la atención de Grace (Mendes).

Sin embargo, Derbez cree que los estereotipos son válidos, que simplemente responden a lo que él proyecta en el cine, y que sería imposible que le ofrecieran un trabajo "del güero ejecutivo".

Eugenio Derbez, de 49 años, también comparte papel en 'Girl in Progress' junto al cantante grupero Espinoza Paz, para quien representa su debut en el cine.
