Muere Donna Summer a los 63 años

La cantante Donna Summer falleció la mañana de este jueves en Florida después de una batalla contra el cáncer, reportó el sitio TMZ en primicia. La también llamada 'Reina del Disco' tenía 63 años.

Según las fuentes del sitio, Summer estaba intentando mantener en secreto la magnitud de su enfermedad. Reportan que hace apenas dos semanas habían hablado con alguien cercano a la artista, quien les detalló que todo parecía estar bien y que incluso estaba enfocada en terminar un álbum en el que estaba trabajando.

Aunque inicialmente no se había confirmado de manera oficial su triste fallecimiento, tanto sus familiares, como su representante y su management han anunciado ya la confirmación de la lamentable noticia.

Summer, cinco veces ganadora del Grammy (de un total de 17 nominaciones), se convirtió en superestrella de la música disco en los 70s con grandes clásicos como 'Hot Stuff', 'I Feel Love', 'On the Radio', 'Last Dance', 'Bad Girls' y 'She Works Hard For The Money', entre otros.

Nacida el 31 de diciembre de 1948, su verdadero nombre era LaDonna Adrian Gaines. Ha vendido a lo largo de su carrera más de 130 millones de discos.

Después de no grabar material inédito desde 'Christmas Spirit', de 1994, regresó a la escena musical en 2008 con el disco 'Crayons', que sigue siendo hasta la fecha su producción más reciente.

Una de sus últimas apariciones en público fue el pasado primero de octubre de 2011 en Las Vegas, durante el concierto David Foster and Friends en el hotel Mandalay Bay, como podrás ver en la galería de imágenes.
