Carlos 'El Indio' Quintana: El boricua está listo para acabar con 'Canelo' Alvarez (ENTREVISTA)

”Estaré disponible si el ‘Golden Boy’ me ofrece a ‘Canelo’ Álvarez para pelear contra él – Carlos Quintana

La pelea que realizó el ex campeón mundial peso wélter puertorriqueño Carlos ‘El Indio’ Quintana (29-3-0-23 nocauts) contra el estadounidense Deandre Latimore (23-4-0-17 nocauts) era (tal como él expresara) “ganar o ganar” ya que si salía derrotado sus días como boxeador estaban contados. El sábado 5 de mayo se enfrentó a Latimore, un púgil de guardia zurda (al igual que ‘El Indio’).

Al hablar sobre el combate que sostuvo contra Latimore, Quintana señaló que: “A pesar de los 15 meses me sentí muy bien. Había trabajado duro en el gimnasio y gracias a Dios salí bien en el combate”.

¿Tenías referencia sobre Deandre Latimore?

“Lo había visto peleando, unas peleas viejas que hizo con Cory Spinks, y en su última presentación. Sabía que era un boxeador fuerte, que tiraba a lo zurdo, que tiraba mucho con potencia, pero vi que en el tercero y cuarto bajó un poquito de intensidad y planificamos el trabajo de la pelea”.

Para todos los efectos, ibas como ‘res para el matadero’, ¿eso te motivó para entrenarte a consciencia?

“Claro que si, sabía que por mi inactividad estaba en contra mia la pelea y más que es un muchacho joven, fuerte, y adicional me motivó el evento, un evento grande, sabía que en estas alturas de mi carrera no podia perder ese combate, y sabía que era ganar o ganar, y gracias a Dios me siento muy bien”.

Habías dicho que si salías derrotado te retirabas, ¿tenías ese pensamiento mientras se desarrollaba el encuentro?

“No, entré positivo, entré a ganar. Rápido que pasé del primer asalto sabía que tenía grandes posibilidades del triunfo. Era cuestión de mantenerme enfocado y cuestión de tiempo, de que madrugara el combate”.

¿Te sientes conforme con tu actuación?

“Definitivamente, ya que creo que 15 meses es bastante tiempo sin pelear y en mis últimos años no he peleado mucho, pero sin embargo gracias a Dios hice un buen trabajo en el combate”.

¿Que posibilidades hay de que vuelvas a pelear en los próximos meses?

“Bueno, realmente no hay nada concreto, pero esperamos en Dios que en los próximos 3 ó 4 meses halla un combate grande”.

¿Cuántas peleas necesitarías para volver a pelear por un título mundial si se te brinda la oportunidad?

“Realmente no espero pelear mucho más, quiero hacer 2 ó 3 peleas máximo y hablar con el promotor. Yo espero hacer ahora una pelea directamente por el título”.

¿Recibiste algún ofrecimiento de la promotora ‘Golden Boy Promotions’ para conseguirte una pelea de título?

“No, mi promotor es Dibella, no es el ‘Golden Boy, pero estaré disponible si el ‘Golden Boy’ me ofrece a ‘Canelo’ Álvarez para pelear contra él?”.

¿Qué mensaje tienes para aquellos que pensaban que ibas de ‘capa caída’?

“Por un lado tenían razón, ya que estaba inactivo y en mi última pelea fue hace 15 meses no había lucido muy bien, pero para que vean que todavía queda ‘Indio’ aunque sea por este año”.
