Mayweather sigue rehuyendo a Pacquiao

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Floyd Mayweather Jr. se alistaba para subir al cuadrilátero casi al mismo tiempo que Manny Pacquiao llegaba al Aeropuerto Internacional de Los Angeles. Estará ocupando una celda en el Centro de Detención del Condado de Clark para cuando Pacquiao se dirija a la meca de las apuestas para su pelea del 9 de junio contra Timothy Bradley.

Al parecer los dos están destinados a nunca estar en el mismo lugar al mismo tiempo. Ciertamente no en el ring, algo que Mayweather dejó en claro la noche del sábado después de derrotar al puertorriqueño Miguel Cotto en un combate que, sino fue su mejor, estuvo absolutamente entre sus más emocionantes.

"La pelea Pacquiao-Mayweather no va a ocurrir", señaló Mayweather. "No es culpa mía", agregó.

Después de ganar un mínimo de 32 millones de dólares en una actuación impresionante contra Cotto, se debe entender que Mayweather descarte la que sería la pelea más rica en la historia del boxeo. Pero con una sentencia de cárcel por cumplir próximamente por un cargo de violencia intrafamiliar, habrá tiempo suficiente para que reflexione sobre su futuro.

"No sé qué pasará, ya que básicamente he peleado contra todos en este deporte", dijo Mayweather. "No tengo que pelar si no quiero", apuntó.

Por cierto, Mayweather dio a entender que se retiraría después de su dura pelea contra Cotto, la cual terminó con Mayweather ganando el título de las 154 libras (69,85 kilogramos) con una decisión unánime.

Pero aún hay una cantidad enorme de dinero por ganar, y él es un boxeador que gasta mucho efectivo con un séquito que parece crecer con cada pelea.

A diferencia de muchas de sus peleas, sin embargo, después de derrotar a Cotto, Mayweather lució como si efectivamente hubiera disputado un combate. Terminó con contusiones debajo de ambos ojos y habló como un boxeador que estaba exhausto por el esfuerzo requerido para capturar la 43er victoria de su inmaculada carrera.

Muchos creen que Pacquiao sería incluso más duro para Mayweather, lo cual podría ser una razón por lo cual parece no querer enfrentársele. Mayweather dijo antes de su combate que cree que Pacquiao utiliza esteroides obtener volumen muscular y que sería peligroso pelear contra él, aunque no ha presentado pruebas de sus afirmaciones y fue demandado por Pacquiao por difamación.

Más adelante, Mayweather dijo que nunca se realizaría ese combate porque Pacquiao está vinculado al promotor Bob Arum y él no quiere tener tratos con Arum.

yo coincido don los del foro, de que mayweather no quiere pelear contra pacquiao por que le quitaria lo invicto, pues es de los que puede igualar la velocidad del negrito y mas que eso tiene pacquiao pues le ayuda el nockeo,. por eso el negrito busco pelar contra un cotto que sabia que le podia ganar, pero a un asi le costo mucho ganarle, ya que dejo que se cansara Cotto,.
