Adam Yauch, también conocido como MCA, miembro de la famosa banda de rap Beastie Boys, ha muerto de cáncer a los 47 años.

El músico, director y productor anunció en julio de 2009 que había sido operado por cáncer en las glándulas salivales y un nódulo linfático.

La muerte de Yauch viene a poco más de un mes de que los Beastie Boys fueran reconocidos al Rock and Roll Hall of Fame en Cleveland.

Debido a su enfermedad, Yauch no asistió a la ceremonia del 14 de marzo, pero sí sus compañeros en el grupo, Michael "Mike D" Diamond y Adam "Ad-Rock" Horowitz, quienes no cantaron durante la noche, pero sí leyeron una pequeña carta que Yauch le había dirigido a los asistentes.

"Quisiera dedicar este honor a mis hermanos, Adam y Mike. Hemos viajado juntos alrededor del planeta. También va para cualquier persona que haya sido tocada por nuestra música. Nuestra inducción es tan nuestra como lo es suya", decía.

El cáncer de Yauch dilató la salida del disco de los Beastie Boys, 'Hot Sauce Comittee Part II', que debió haber visto la luz en 2009 pero apenas salió durante la primavera anterior.

El año pasado se decía que MCA ya había superado esta terrible enfermedad, pero lamentablemente no fue así. En aquel entonces, escribió en el sitio oficial del trío lo siguiente:

"Hola, mis amigos. Aunque estoy agradecido por toda la energía positiva que la gente me está enviando, los reportes de que ya no tengo cáncer son exagerados. Continúo bajo tratamiento y me mantengo optimista para en un futuro estar libre de cáncer".

Los Beastie Boys comenzaron su carrera en 1979 y desde entonces han grabado ocho discos juntos, con éxitos como los que puedes ver en la galería debajo. Llevan vendidos más de 40 millones de discos alrededor del mundo.

Además de su carrera como músico, Yauch dirigió muchos de los videos del grupo, bajo el seudónimo de Nathaniel Hornblower. Filmó en 2008 un documental sobre basketball titulado 'Gunnin' For That #1 Spot' y produjo cintas tales como 'The Messenger', protagonizada por Woody Harrelson, con la cual asistió a los Premios Oscar en 2010.
