MADRID (AP) — La lluvia desapareció justo a tiempo para que los aficionados del Real Madrid celebraran el jueves su 32do título de la liga española de fútbol en la tradicional Plaza de Cibeles.
El sol apareció tras un día nublado de chubascos intermitentes, con los jugadores y cuerpo técnico del Real Madrid llegando al centro de la ciudad un día después de vencer 3-0 al Athletic de Bilbao para asegurar su primer título de liga desde 2008.
Decenas de miles de aficionados ovacionaron al técnico José Mourinho y a los jugadores del equipo, saltando y ondeando banderas del club, mientras se escuchaba en altavoces la canción del grupo de rock Queen "We are the champions" (Nosotros somos los campeones) y el capitán Iker Casillas colocaba una bandera y una bufanda alrededor del cuello de la estatua de la diosa romana.
"Este triunfo es suyo, que lo disfruten, que también se lo merecen, que han sido tres años largos de sequía en la competición doméstica", comentó el capitán Iker Casillas.
"Hemos tenido rachas, como todos los equipos. Yo creo que es una liga regular y al final creo que hemos merecido esta liga", agregó.
El equipo inició su recorrido de festejo en la parte alta de un autobús descubierto desde el estadio Santiago Bernabéu, transitando por la avenida Castellana hasta la fuente de La Cibeles, donde la policía local reportó que aproximadamente 25.000 aficionados dieron la bienvenida al conjunto.
"Estoy muy contento después de un campeonato tan reñido con un Barcelona extraordinario. Somos justos merecedores de este campeonato. El Real Madrid ha sido campeón con un fútbol espléndido", comentó el zaguero Sergio Ramos.
"Tiene muchísimo mérito y lo tenemos que destacar. Estoy orgulloso de defender esta camiseta que es única", agregó.
Con dos fechas por jugar, no hubo un trofeo en la celebración como en la temporada pasada, cuando el autobús del Real Madrid paseó la Copa del Rey, que se le cayó a Ramos en pleno festejo.
