Hace unos días, la controversial artista del hip-hop y R&B Nicki Minaj estrenó el videoclip de su más reciente sencillo, titulado 'Starships'.

Si todavía no conoces bien a la Minaj, desde hace un par de años ha tenido varios éxitos comerciales como 'Super Bass', 'Fly' (en donde la acompaña Rihanna), y una reciente colaboración con el renombrado DJ francés David Guetta, 'Turn Me On'. También fue elegida por Madonna para cantar en su sencillo 'Give Me All Your Lovin'' y, por consiguiente, la acompañó en su actuación del Super Bowl.

Pero, en el más puro estilo de Lady Gaga, a Nicki Minaj también le gusta dar de qué hablar... y mucho. Durante la pasada entrega del Grammy, el show de Nicki para su canción 'Roman Holiday' enfureció a los católicos. Comenzó con una confesión al Padre y llevó entonces a un "exorcismo" en donde la vimos levitar por el escenario, bailar con monjes, hincarse a rezar y hablar en lenguas como si en verdad estuviera poseída.

Su más reciente video, 'Starships' no es tan polémico como anteriores clips, tipo 'Beez in the Trap' o 'Stupid Hoe'. Nicki emerge del mar en un diminuto y escotadísimo bikini para no sólo coquetear con la cámara sino con una docena de chicas sensuales y hombres en taparrabo, quienes comienzan la fiesta a todo lo que da, desde el calorcito de la playa hasta las alucinaciones nocturnas.

En su reseña, MTV explica que "la adoración a Minaj está a todo con sirvientes fortachones y tatuados cargándola por la isla como la reina que es, pero mientras el ritmo de la canción se eleva, también la acción del video, con una fiesta donde se emplea un genial efecto visual tipo caleidoscopio, que captura precisamente la energía de la canción. (...) No hay gran historia o un significado profundo u oculto en la canción - simplemente la Barbie Harajuku te ofrece pasar un buen momento".

El Hollywood Reporter añade que el video, dirigido por Anthony Mandler, es "la definición de la exageración, mientras vemos a la belleza nacida en Trinidad contorneándose lujuriosamente por la arena, exponiendo su famoso trasero para que todos lo vean".

No obstante, entre tanto cuerpo expuesto, fiesta alucinógena y pintura por doquier, a mí me recordó a uno que otro video latino... ¿Te acuerdas del clásico video 'Banana' de Garibaldi? En él, Luisa Fernanda, Paty Manterola y compañía se divertían por la playa cual aborígenes y jugaban con el doble sentido de la canción...
